Accessing 4 SATA ports on the Gigabyte GA-MA69GM-S2H
I've mentioned before about the SATA ports being oddly laid out on the Gigabyte GA-MA69GM-S2H motherboard. This causes problems with the fan case of the Silverstone Sugo SG-01 and SG-02 cases. The SATA ports are horizontal and face out from the edge of the board. This forces the SATA cables into the fan case. With no modification you can just about use 2 of the ports.
Two of the cables push against the metal surround, two push against the plastic fan mount. You could remove the fan (it's for the hard-drives) and replace it with a thinner fan.
I went with another approach. I put two hard-drives in the caddy and decided how much I could cut away. I cut the edge of the hard-drive caddy so that I can fit SATA cables into all 4 ports. It's very tight, but just about doable. I used a combination of straight and angled connectors, can't really figure out which.
The metal is soft and I was able to do this (messily) with a pair of pincers. It's easy when you twist the metal. I tidied it up with a metal file, removing the sharp edges. To be honest, a junior hacksaw and/or Dremel would probably be easier. One piece of advice: wear eye protection. The metal's soft but hard enough to fly off as you cut it.
