ScribeFire as a temporary measure

In a previous article, I discussed looking for a desktop blogging tool. I tried Ecto until the end of the trial period. I liked it, I found that it did help me post (but I actually posted more on this site's sister site). I found some issues, generally quirky formatting every so often but nothing that was too troublesome. It was still better than using Drupal's own interface. Tags and images were slightly odd as well.

Anyway, the trial ran out and I started looking around again. It's cheap and for the sake of $20 or thereabouts, it's a no-brainer if it works for you. I felt there was still a bit more I could get.

I tried Bleezer. It's almost the same, but has some serious editing issues. Mainly, if you're on one line, pressing backspace just deletes the last character on the previous line rather than deleting and positioning the cursor there. This made editing text very messy. And the interface for saving files was awful, every save was a new save as. I ditched it.

I'm using ScribeFire now, I like it a lot. I may go back to Ecto. There was a lot about it that I liked, but for the moment, I'll stick with ScribeFire.

The main trick I've found is that once it's installed, right-click on the ScribeFire icon in the bottom status bar. Gives you more options such as open in new tab. Then you'll have the editor open in your new tab. Took me a while to figure that out. Once I did, it all fell into place a lot more quickly.
