Stairway to Heaven setting

This is the image of the set-up for the Stairway to Heaven image.

In keeping with the theme of using everyday objects, I made use of a central-heating radiator as the staircase. The lights were two unmodified Nikon flashes (one SB600 and one SB900) at a low angle to the radiator. This gave the radiator more depth than you'd usually see due to the increased shadows.

Three other simple techniques were used:

  • Close-up - you don't normally look at radiators this close
  • Changed the perspective - how often do you look along the radiator?
  • Rotated the image - while not a ground-breaking technique, it works in this case, because radiators are always viewed in the same orientation.
