Part of the series of using everyday objects to create more interesting images.

Creating images using normal, everyday objects

I like creating images using objects I find around the house or the garage. It's not quite an optical illusion apart from the fact that (with some imagination) you may think you're seeing something whereas actually it's an image of something very different.

The two main tricks I've found for making this work better are:  read more »

The Relaunch of alancward.co.uk as a photographic site

I used to use this site domain as a test-bed for another site (Award Sounds). I've decided I want to separate out some of the content from that site and so, from now on, I'm going to change this site to become a photographer-centric site.

Specifically, I'll showcase my images, photographic news and information I think others will be interested in. Rather than tack the site down for a few weeks, I'll continue to let it run and change it over bit by bit.

See No Evil, Hear No Evil, Speak No Evil

A shot using a single exposure to make an image of the three monkeys of See No Evil, Hear No Evil and Speak No Evil.

I'm also the subject in this case. The grim expression is concentration as I only had 20 seconds for the whole exposure, including changing props, changing position and triggering the flash. I usually smile more :-)

About Me

Hi,

I'm a photographer and I've been interested in photography ever since first getting my head around aperture and exposure back in school.

Separately to photography, I've been a business consultant with a variety of skills and experience in a number of industry sectors for over 12 years. For the last couple of few years, I've been specialising in business change, most recently within the public sector, but keeping up my general Business Analysis skills.

Now running Drupal 6.1

I've successfully upgraded to Drupal 6.1.

The upgrade to Drupal 6.0 went fine, although I missed out the step about disabling contributed modules before the upgrade. So I had about an extra 30 minutes going through sorting out the results of my mistake.  read more »

Now running Drupal 6

This site is now running Drupal 6. The upgrade wasn't entirely painless (partly my own fault), but it's running smoothly now. There are some contributed modules that haven't yet been upgraded to Drupal 6, so I expect some features to be missing at the moment.

Upcoming upgrade to Drupal 6

This site is running Drupal 5.x. Great as that version of Drupal is, there are a few items in Drupal 6 I've been looking forward to. Mainly some of the functionality provided by contributed modules for Drupal 5.x has been brought into the core of Drupal 6.

This site is currently a test-site for my main site at Award Sounds. As such any upgrades will be performed here first and then on that site when I'm happy with the results.  read more »

ScribeFire as a temporary measure

In a previous article, I discussed looking for a desktop blogging tool. I tried Ecto until the end of the trial period. I liked it, I found that it did help me post (but I actually posted more on this site's sister site). I found some issues, generally quirky formatting every so often but nothing that was too troublesome. It was still better than using Drupal's own interface. Tags and images were slightly odd as well.  read more »
